What is the adoption fee?
Our adoption fees help offset the high cost of rescuing and caring for our dogs.
- Under 5 years old $550
- 5 years old to 9 years old $450
- 9 years old and older $350
- Small breed (*all ages) $600
Why Are Your Adoption Fees So “High”?
We hear this question often, and the honest answer is: our adoption fees don’t come close to covering what we actually spend on most dogs.
Unlike large shelters that receive government funding, Three Stooges Rescue is a small, volunteer-run nonprofit that relies entirely on adoption fees, donations, fundraising, and community support to save lives.
Before a dog is adopted, we typically provide:
Many of our dogs arrive with medical or behavioral challenges that require additional treatment. Heartworm treatment alone can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. Emergency surgeries can cost several thousand dollars. Some dogs remain in our care for months—or even years—before finding their forever home.
The reality is that adoption fees rarely cover the full cost of an individual dog’s care. Instead, they help offset expenses and allow us to continue saving the next dog in need.
When you adopt from Three Stooges Rescue, you’re not simply paying for a dog. You’re helping fund vaccinations for a litter of puppies, heartworm treatment for a neglected dog, emergency medical care for an injured stray, and a second chance for animals who would otherwise have nowhere to go.
A well-bred puppy from a reputable breeder often costs $2,000–$5,000 or more. Our adoption fees are a fraction of that cost while still providing a fully vetted companion and helping save a life.
Every adoption fee goes directly back into our rescue efforts because every dog deserves a chance at a happy ending.
Adopt a dog. Save a life. Help us save the next one, too. ❤️🐾
Why is there a fee to surrender my pet?
We require a surrender fee to help offset the immediate medical and care costs we assume when taking in a dog. We understand that surrendering a pet is often an emotional and difficult decision, but without community support, we cannot continue saving lives or providing proper care.
Does your rescue receive government funding or grants?
No. Three Stooges Rescue does not receive government funding or grants. We rely entirely on adoption fees, donations, and community support to provide a safe and loving haven for dogs in need.
Why do you require an application before I meet the dog?
We require an application prior to a meet-and-greet to ensure the dog you're interested in is a good fit for your household. The application process also helps us ensure adopters are fully prepared and committed to welcoming a dog into their family.
Do you offer discounts or payment?
Due to the overwhelming number of homeless dogs in need and the rising cost of veterinary care, we are unable to offer discounts or payment plans at this time.
Where does my money go?
Every dollar donated or paid in adoption fees goes directly toward saving and caring for dogs in need, including:
- veterinary care -- exams, spay/neuter, vaccines, diagnostics, medications, surgeries, and emergency treatment
- preventative care -- monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
- food & supplies -- quality food, crates, beds, leashes, collars, enrichment items
- boarding & foster support -- for dogs without immediate fosters home
- training & behavioral support -- professional training when needed to help dogs succeed in adoptive homes
- transportation & rescue costs -- safe transport from shelters, owner surrenders, and emergency situations
As a small, volunteer-driven rescue, we prioritize direct care for our dogs so your support makes an immediate, lifesaving impact.
